Gaylord Music Library Closing
WashU recently announced a project to build a new residential hall on the Danforth Campus on the corner of Forsyth Boulevard and Wallace Drive. One of the buildings impacted by the project is the Gaylord Music Library, which will close its doors at the end of the finals period in May 2026.
WashU Libraries are committed to ensuring a smooth transition and remain focused on our mission of excellent service, including accessibility of resources and preservation of collections. During this transition, access to digital resources will not change, staff will remain accessible, and service points supporting music resources will be integrated into Olin Library.
Gaylord Music Library’s comprehensive collection of music books, scores, sound recordings, videos & DVDs, and research collections will also remain accessible. Once relocation is complete, music collections will be housed in Olin Library, West Campus, and Special Collections.
Mimi Calter, Vice Provost and University Librarian, notes that “while we are never happy about losing a library building, we recognize the importance of the South 40 project and support its success. We are pleased to have implemented a transition plan that maintains a strong and supportive level of service and collections access for our music library patrons.”
