Dr. Robert C. Johnson III Papers

As a graduate student at Washington University in Saint Louis, Dr. Johnson was active in forming the Association of Black Collegians, which spearheaded changes in the structure and environment of this institution. He led student protest movements that resulted in the creation of a Black Studies program, increased enrollment of students of color, increased financial aid for students of color, the hiring of Black administrators professors and staff, the desegregation of work roles and staff positions, the establishment of a community-based research and service organization (the Institute of Black Studies), and changes in the research protocol on African Americans.

The Dr. Robert C. Johnson III Papers consist of 22 films shot by him documenting Black student life and organizations at WashU and associated places, including Nigeria and Jamaica, from 1970-1972.

Each page includes a form for viewers to provide any identifying information about the people featured in the films. Names, memories, and connections all provide valuable information to enhance the films for use as research.
