Overview of the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy

In January 2023, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) instituted a new Data Management and Sharing Policy that requires all researchers seeking NIH funding to describe how they will manage and share their data.

This talk will provide an overview of the policy, including DMS policy expectations, the applicability of the policy, how to prepare a Data Management and Sharing Plan, and considerations for sharing data responsibly. It will also touch on the roles of librarians in helping researchers not only comply with the policy, but also to make their research more reproducible, transparent, and reusable.
