Medieval Manuscripts at WashU

Tens of thousands of medieval manuscripts and documents have made their way from Europe to collections across North America. The Peripheral Manuscripts Project (2020-present) seeks to advance the study of pre-1600 manuscript items in North America by expanding awareness of and digital access to items held at over forty institutions across the American Midwest.

Thanks to a recent NEH grant, WashU will join this initiative by contributing manuscripts to its online repository. Christa Kileff, project archivist and Born-Digital Poetry fellow, will discuss the challenges she faced to identify manuscript fragments found throughout the collection, often hid inside bindings. Sarah Noonan, co-principal investigator, will discuss the Peripheral Manuscripts Project. The event will conclude with a showcase of WashU’s amazing pre-1600 manuscript holdings.

Free and open to all, registration requested.
