On the Calculation of Volume (Book 1)

Join us for this month’s WashU Libraries Virtual Book Club where we will discuss On the Calculation of Volume (Book 1) by Solvej Balle and translated by Barbara J. Haveland.

Tara Selter has involuntarily stepped off the train of time: in her world, November 18 repeats itself endlessly. We meet Tara on her 122nd November 18th. She no longer experiences the changes of days, weeks, months, or seasons. She finds herself in a lonely new reality, unable to explain why. Will she ever be able to share her new life with her beloved, and now chronically befuddled, husband? And on top of her profound isolation and confusion, Tara painfully realizes how little difference she makes in the world.

Book club will begin with a short presentation by guest host Walter Schlect, followed by a discussion of the novel.

Free and open to all, registration required for Zoom link.
